Here is my finished product:
No challenge for a food stylist there! This is a grilled burger, with the oh-so-French additions of red onion marmalade, a cornichon-caper-tomato blend, and shavings of Parmesan (okay, Italian but close). The verdict: wonderful! Two lucky kids even got to take the leftovers for lunch the next day, with nary a morsel left for hungry Mom and Dad.
Here is what I learned from this recipe:
- Gherkin is the English word for "cornichon." Yes, I had to look it up.
- My Cuisinart Mini-Prep food processor is not worth the space it takes up in the cupboard.
- A vegetable peeler is my new favorite way to slice Parmesan cheese.

I love it when a recipe is a learning experience! I'm also of the opinion that the mini chopper food processor is not worth the materials it's made with. I (lucky me!) did manage to snag the last leftover burger as lunch today. This time I americanized it by putting mayo, ketchup and cheddar on top. It was just as good that way!
i agree with you on the parmesean! I'm not going to grate it traditionally anymore, just slice ribbons :) err peel ribbons!
Your kids are lucky! I made three patties out of a pound of ground chuck and now I'm wishing I had stretched it a bit more for leftovers.
Hmmm, I do like my mini-chopper. I agree with you about this way of "grating" the Parmesan. It's easy and tres elegante!
I loved the vegetable peeler technique with the cheese - it works so well and looks great. I don't have a mini food processor, so all my chopping was done by hand. I bet your kids were happy to take the leftovers with them!
